Keeping AI screening fair: structure, evidence, and human decisions
Structured screening is more consistent than ad-hoc resume review — if the human still makes the call and the evidence stays visible.

Unstructured hiring is not a neutral baseline. Skimming resumes rewards familiar names, familiar schools, and familiar formatting. Structure is an improvement, not a risk to be avoided.
What makes structured screening fairer
- Every applicant answers the same job-relevant questions
- Answers are assessed against criteria written before applications arrived
- Nobody is filtered out for a resume gap or an unfamiliar employer
Three rules to hold on to
- A machine narrows; a human decides. No automatic rejection without reviewable evidence.
- Keep the video and the reasoning visible so a decision can be audited.
- Score on job-relevant criteria only — never on appearance, accent, age, or background.
Review your own outcomes
Every few hires, look at who passed screening and who you actually hired. If the two diverge sharply, your criteria and your real preferences disagree — fix the criteria.
