Most remote hires that fail, fail in month one from missing context — not missing skill. Here's a concrete 30-day plan.

The first 30 days: onboarding a remote hire so they stay

You hired well and the person still struggled. Usually the cause is context, not capability: nobody explained how your business actually runs, and they had no hallway to overhear it in.

Week 1 — access and observation

  • Every tool account created before day one
  • Recorded walkthroughs of your five core processes
  • Shadow a real workday, do nothing live

Week 2 — supervised work

They handle real tasks with review before anything goes out. Correct in writing so the corrections become documentation.

Weeks 3–4 — independence with checkpoints

Full task ownership, a daily written end-of-day summary, and one live call a week. At day 30, review against three explicit success metrics you wrote before they started.

Write the metrics before the offer

"Answers 95% of calls within three rings" is reviewable. "Good attitude" is not.
